      Ingredients

      Directions

      Bake: Loaded Au Gratin Potatoes: Potatoes: 1 box (4.7oz) au gratin potatoes; 2 cups boiling water; 1 cup half & half; 2 tablespoons butter or margarine; 1 cup cooked bacon bits or pieces; 1 cup shredded Monterey jack cheese (4oz); 1/4, cup sliced green onions; 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Topping: 1/2 cup plain bread crumbs; 2 tablespoons butter, melted. Heat oven to 400 degrees F; In a 2-quart casserole, mix potatoes, sauce mix, boiling water, half & half and butter. Stir in bacon, cheese, onions and pepper. Bake uncovered 35 minutes; In a small bowl, mix bread crumbs and butter, sprinkle over top. Bake 8 minutes longer or until topping is golden. Let stand 5 minutes before serving (sauce will thicken as it stands). Bake: Oven Directions: Preheat oven to 450 degrees . In a 1-1/2-quart baking dish, stir together potatoes, sauce mix. 2 cups boiling (Use boiling water for best potato texture and sauce appearance) water, 1/2 cup 2% milk, and 2 tablespoons butter (margarine). Bake uncovered about 20 minutes or until top is light golden brown and potatoes are tender. Remove from oven (sauce will thicken as it stands). Microwave: Microwave Directions: Stir together potatoes, sauce mix, 2-1/2 cups hot water, 1/2 cup 2% milk. and 2 tablespoons butter (margarine) in a 2-quart microwave-safe dish. Microwave uncovered on high for 13 to 18 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes, until potatoes are tender. (Sauce will thicken as it stands.) Dish will be hot. Simmer: Stove-Top Directions: Heat Potatoes, sauce mix, 2 cups hot water, 2 tablespoons butter and 1/2 cup 2% milk to boiling in 2-quart saucepan over high heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat cover and simmer about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until potatoes are tender and sauce is as thick as you'd like. (Sauce will thicken as it stands.) Note: Cooking time is approximate because microwave ovens vary. High Altitude: Increase hot water to 2-3/4 cups and microwave time to 15 to 20 minutes. High Altitude: No changes.
